A Purchasing Manager is needed for a Direct-hire position in Philadelphia, PA!

Our client company is a Pennsylvania-based food distributor with over three thousand food items! They focus on the delivery of their foodservice items, ethnic items, and various kinds of meats. They have nearly 50 vehicles for their services and over two thousand customers. They even distribute their products throughout East Coast and Mid-Atlantic States!

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing purchasing, inventory, and sales objectives for the company. This position makes a salary of $140K!

Responsibilities of the Purchasing Manager include:

  • Building and maintaining vendor relationships to maximize business.
  • Managing a team of buyers in the purchasing of protein commodities. 
  • Assisting and supporting buyers in all activities that develop relationships with suppliers.
  • Negotiating and executing vendor contracts as needed to support the Purchasing Team.
  • Keeping up with maintenance and reconciliation of accrual programs. 
  • Ensuring all vendors and suppliers meet service benchmarks and performing ongoing evaluation of vendors and suppliers
  • Proposing improvements to the current purchasing system to improve vendor relationships and lower business costs. 
  • Collaborating with inventory control and sales to develop metrics for gauging inventory level needs and maintain those levels.
  • Managing internal/external backhaul programs by negotiating allowances and negotiating and approving freight rates. 
  • Continuously researching alternative supplier options
  • Helping build strategic relationships with vendors.
  • Reviewing inventory, sales and margins daily.
  • Working closely with other departments to ensure inventories are at acceptable levels.
  • Providing periodic reports, analyses, and plans related to purchasing issues and metrics ranging from short to long-term consideration.
  • Regularly meeting with members of senior management to update and review departmental performance metrics.
  • Achieving financial goals.
  • Establishing and maintaining measurable performance metrics for all levels of procurement activities to include but not limited to supplier performance, buyer activity levels, financial (AP) performance.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a purchasing management or management role
  • Extensive knowledge of commodity protein items and markets with the ability to evaluate short and long-term market conditions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective problem analysis and problem resolution
  • Strong leadership skills especially for planning and executing projects
  • Must be highly organized and able to prioritize tasks
  • Demonstrate budgeting and financial analysis skills
  • In-depth knowledge of sourcing and procurement principles and best practices
  • Strong negotiation skills and strong vendor relations
  • Computer skills including proven proficiency in MS Office, email, and math
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a diverse group of employees, managers, and other levels of the organization
  • Strong multitasker that thrives in a fast-paced environment
